stretching

It has long been axiomatic among physical therapists that one should stretch before exercise to prevent injuries, however, I have read recent studies (see websites below) that show that stretching before exercise does not prevent injuries and can even cause injuries. п»їhttp://www.pponline.co.uk/encyc/0396.htmп»їhttp://wwwdb.csu.edu.au/division/marketing/tms/T101/T101p4.htmTwo questions: 1. Do you believe that stretching before exercise prevents injuries?2. If your answer is yes, on what do you base this conclusion other than the long held belief that has apparently been refuted by controlled studies.

I feel that stretching should be done after a warm up like biking, treadmill or other aerobic activity. I also believe that stretching should be done between sets of exercises to the particular muscle being worked…resistive exercise causes shortening of muscle fibers and stretching prevent that from happening. And yes, I feel that stretching does prevent some injuries.
