sublexing subtalar joints/valgus deformity of the foot

My son, age 12, suffers chronic pain in both feet.
If participating in physical activity, he also experiences pain in his knees, hips, and lower back.
I took him to see a highly experienced and recommended podiatrist.
His diagnoses was sublexing subtalar joints and valgus deformity of the foot.
He would like to do subtalar implants.
My insurance co. is saying “no”.
What do you think of this procedure?
Do you know of an alternative if I can’t get them to see things my way?

Generally you have the right to appeal the insurance plans decision. In your papers from them or see if they have this online, you can request a hearing. Your podiatrist will need to help with writing a letter and supplying documentation. This is a fact of life with managed care today. They claim not to be practicing medicine, but in effect they are by denying care. As far as you child needing or not needing the procedures recommended, I can not comment. You can always get a second opinion and even a third. This might help bolster your case to the insurance company. Remember they save money by telling you “NO.” That is in their best interest. You may have to keep plugging away and work your way up the chain of command. Good luck.
