swelling after surgery

(3 discussions)

On April 24,2012, I had foot surgery to remove a bunion and I had a hammer toe that the doctor rebroke and fixed. The surgery itself was successful, 9 weeks later I have severe swelling to the point that I cannot wear a shoe. My doctor said all the bones are healed and took many x-rays to see if I may have fractured my foot, but they came back okay. He recommended that I us ice water and warm water and alternate them, but I had no sucess. I would really like to know if you could recommend something for the swelling.

It is hard to say what the short answer is. Your swelling is caused by something that is not obvious to your doctor. Are you wearing compression hose? Do you have any other medical problems? I’m sorry that there is no simple answer. You might go back to your doctor and try to figure this out. Good LuckVivian A DPM
