swelling underneath big toenail

Over the past month the tip of my big toe on my left foot developed a bump right at the corner of the nail, over time it seems to have swelled and pushed up on my toenail to the point where the skin is overlapping the nail in one part, it is extremely painful and it bleeds from the side of the nail, I thought it was an ingrown toenail or something, but im really beginning to doubt that.
any ideas?
