swollen

The bone that sticks out on the inside of my foot under the big toe is swollen, and keeps getting bigger. It hurts too (especially when I walk for a long time), but not unbearable. I ice it but it doesn’t help. I got x-rays done but they said nothing was wrong with the bone and they just said there’s some swelling there. That didn’t help. I have Lupus so they said it might be arthritis, but it sure doesn’t feel like arthritis and I know what that feels like. So what is wrong with my foot??

Without examining your foot I can not be specific. Possibilities include a capsulitis, rheumatoid nodule, synovitis or ganglion cyst. A sonogram or MRI might give more information as soft tissue swelling is better seen on these than an x-ray.Lupus is in the family of autoimmune diseases as is rheumatoid arthritis. The arthritis starts in the soft tissue joint capsule first before the bone is eventually affected. I am curious as to what type of doctor did you see?
