Swollen toes

I was wondering if you could help me? At the moment my little toes on either foot are swollen and red along with the toe next to the little one is permantly swollen . Brief history, alittle over 12 mths ago the 2nd small toe on my right foot appeared swollen and red with minor discomfort when touched. The doctor treated it for gout with no results, then treated it for an infection with no results. I saw a podiatrist who did not know what the problem was and referred me back to a doctor. At this stage l had become respondant and did not do any more about the problem as the toe was not red anymore but still swollen and has remained so with no pain. About 3 mths ago my little toes on both feet have done the same thing, swollen & red. I have seen 2 doctors, one said l might have chillblains with no treatment. the other one said it could be from wearing shoes too tight. The question is this the problem or could it be something else and is it treatable and will the swelling come down. As now because of the swelling it becomes uncomfortable to wear shoes and my toes rub together which causes tinea and causes them to bleed. Should l go and see a foot specialist to see if they can find an answer?

I think you might see a rheumatologist. Some of the autoimmune arthritides can cause this.
