Talus Contusion

(3 discussions)

I’m an american working overseas and injured my ankle playing in a soccer tournament in March of 2013.
At first I thought it was just a normal sprain or strain but it didn’t heal.
It is now 6 months later and I still have the same pain.
I got an MRI a month ago and the result is as follows:Bone Contusion, Superolateral Aspect of the TalusConsider small focus of Osteonecrosis, Distal FibulaI cannot find a doctor in this country that can give me any sort of solution to this problem.
I am a soccer coach and desperatly need use of my ankle!
I’m wanting to know if there is anything that can be done to speed up the healing of my ankle or if I need to try to stay off of it and hope it will heal on its own before too long.

I have recently broken my Fibula. Only after six weeks and continuous pain was I able to convince my Dr. to allow an MRI. It revealed that the Fibula had healed but I had a contusion to the talus and a “Well corticated boney density along with some remaining partial tears of the ankle ligaments”. His response was that he wasn’t going to do anything further. It has now been 3 1/2 months. I have no stability in my ankles to speak of and suffer constantly from pain in the joint along with swelling. Should I seek another opinion? Or is this the normal healing procedure for this injury?

In answering your question. I had almost the exact same thing happen to me. I had just turned 15 years old and was playing in a soccer tournament over Memorial Day Weekend. I got taken out by the goalie and thought I sprained my ankle. Though it was also pretty severe. Though it was still hurting 4 months later, during my Varsity softball season and club soccer. So I got an MRI and I have a deep bone contustion of the talus. I am in a cast for immobilization for 2-3 months. Then if not better by then, I get a CAT Scan. The only way to heal it is immobilization. Hope I’ve helped. Chrissy
