tendon

(4 discussions)

Hey, I injured my foot a few months ago now and was diagnosed today as having a detatched tendon along the lateral side of my foot (sorry I don’t remember what it was called). The doctor gave me a cortisone injection there and then (which hurt quite alot!) and said he’d see me again at xmas. Can I expect this injection to hurt a lot more over next few days before it starts to help and does he expect the tendon to re-attach itself?
Thanks for your help and time,Helen x

Was a MRI or sonogram done to dtermine if the tendon was injured? I am sorry, you did not give me any information to work with. I can’t imagine the tendon was “detached” and you were not put in a brace of some sort. Perhaps you need to talk to your doctor some more. Cortisone shots can sometimes be painful initially before they do the job. What was the cortisone for?

MRI was done and xrays so he could check no bone injury. The cortisone injection was supposed to reduce swelling and inflammation, does that not sound right? It is sore at the moment, but to be fair it’s so painful all the time that it doesn’t feel too bad! I do have to walk 40 mins to college, which is almost impossible. Is there a particular sort of brace that I can get hold of myself or is that up to my doctor? Thanks x

I certainly would consider a cast boot. You might also consider off loading your weight using crutches. I would consider this an important part of the treatment.

that doesnt sound right to me. if I were you I would definitely go get a second opinion. as dr. abrams always says, make sure you see a podiatrist or a foot/ankle orthopedist.good luck, justin
