tendon damage physical therapy?

(5 discussions)

my father cut his hand about 6 months ago. he absolutely refused to see a dr. and now his fingers are curled and he has a lot of pain making it hard to do his job but he is very stubborn and forces his fingers to move causing even more pain. he will never see a dr for anything so I am wondering if you could recommend some physical therapy exersizes for the tendons in the hand that have been partially severed with no previous medical care or will that even help…. Thank you

When there is damage to tissue it starts to rebuild fairly quickly. Laying down collagen and scar tissue…by the time 6 months has passed it’s fairly healed and no amount of stretching will stretch out his fingers. At least without extreme pain. Maybe this will teach your father to seek out medical care for injuries.

thanks but I am positive the only time my dad will see a dr is if he is unconsious and dying (something unmentionable happened to him when he was a kid is the reason he wont) but I do know that he WILL do exercizes for his hand no matter how much pain it causes him… He is a tough old logger and has to be “TOP-DOG” at work so could you please recommend any that might help his hand. this is my last resort before hitting him over the head with a frying pan and dragging him to the dr(i am a stubborn loggers daughter) and I know he will never forgive me or speak to me again and I love him so much and don’t want that to happen……please…and thank you very much for your time…..

Like I said before, I think his “window of opprotunity” has passed. Next time hit him over the head with the frying pan. Or you could take him to a hand specialist doc and get his professional opinion. Good luck!!

I have a torn bicep tendon torn from the top. This was done in physical therapy for a torn rotator cuff can this be repaired?
