thoracic pain and lumbar

I had a work related injury to my back a year ago. Dr. diagnosed with thoracic sprain. I went to therapy and since then I have had recurrent problems. Muscle spasms and uncomfortableness in middle of my back. Sometimes it goes down to my lower back, but main area is middle. Can this result from my initial injury?

    Sir,
I have had intractable back pain for over 26 years. The pain is, at times, more than I can bear. I withdrew from Medical School at the end of my first year. I’ve been diagnosed with everything BUT a healthy back. I have had two discs fused in my neck. The cervical canal is grossly stenotic and there are six large bone spurs impinging on the cord. Another cervical herniation is above the fusion but separated from it by probably the only good disc in my back. Longitidinal, anterior and posterior ligaments are calcifying. Except for fused discs, all cervical discs are “bulging”. Discogram in thoracic region showed concordant pain from T4-5 through T10-11. Epidural injections provide no relief, however, facet blocks help for about a week. 1st and 2nd opinions advocate fusion therapy across forementioned discs. As an aside, I am osteopenic in my neck and pelvis but ironically pass calcified kidneystones about once a year. It was the pain in my pelvis that forced my withdrawal from Medicine. At the time I was diagnosed with by x-ray with ankylosing spondylitis. I do not seem to have any indication of spondylitis now. Aach! I could go on for ever…my question: I haven’t felt my pelvic pain in years but I am under no illusion that the issues with my S-I joints and lumbar discs have resolved themselves. Will I feel pelvic pain again if the fusion is done? I don’t want to sound like a baby but I’m really getting frustrated and tired with the constant discomfort.
Also, what should happen if I can’t work anymore? Is my situation one that might be covered by SSDI?
Thank you, I appreciate your time, Gordon
