Thumb

(2 discussions)

I “jammed” my thumb really badly playing football (like the spiral hit the tip of my thumb directly) and I was wondering if I either just jammed it badly or perhaps fractured it or maybe even broke it. The first day I couldn’t move it at all whatsoever and now it’s been two weeks and I have been using a splint but my thumb can only bend 45 degrees and I still feel pain.

Whatever you do keep the splint on that thumb. Something similar happened to me in high school with a basketball and my pinky. I had an x-ray and there was debate on a fracture. The doctors decided that it wasn’t fractured and told me to just tape it. Although it took several weeks to heal with lots of pain it did heal. However, I now have a permanently bent pinky finger, because it probably was fractured and it healed in a bent position. If you can get an x-ray it’s always useful and take whatever you usually take for pain.
