TO TRIGIRL—–2 legs fractures

(2 discussions)

U replied to my messege about 2 shin splints a month ago, TRIGIRL>

I dont know what is the difference between shin splints and stress fractures, but I have been told I have stress fractures. It’s been a long time. The pain has been much better in last couple of months but it does not go away completely.

I have had it for 5-6 months now. I had my left leg in cast for 3 weeks and right one for 5 weeks but none of them are completely healed.!!!

I haven’t kicked ball in 7-8 nmonths and I’m really losing paitient. I have seen 4 doctors now. One of them suggests to keep them in cast for a longer time. I’m getting cast on my left one once again next week. But I’m really confused why they are not getting better.

So do u have any suggestions?
Really appreciate it.

stress fractures are more serious because you have a slight break in the bone, but both are pretty much overuse and/or conditional injuries. Shin splints have pain that is more spread out, fractures have localized pain. they both are needing good equipment (shoes)makeing sure to find out if you have a high arch or low one. Also warming up and cooling down after activities. Try some good sports or therapeutic massage relaxation is okay, but you are specifically wanting to relax over worked lower leg muscles, break up any bad adhesions that have built up, and give the muscles there the best opportunity to heal, and regain strength. So I have heard that putting something in a cast or leaving it immobile is the worst thing you can do, yes, you need rest and you need to alter activities but muscles, tendons, ligaments, lose strength and generally react badly to nonuse.

Hello again, maybe I can help. It is my understanding that stress fractures would need about 12 weeks to heal but depending on the severity it may take longer. You say that you have had casts for up to 5 weeks so perhaps give it some time. It’s hard to be patient, especially when you are used to being active. It sounds like you were experiencing pain for 5-6 months before you had casts put on. The longer you wait to treat something, the longer the recovery process. Sounds like you are a soccer player? Was there a specific event that took place prior to your pain? Did the pain develop gradually or did it just appear one day? Is there something that makes your pain worse or better? Is the pain localized or spread out? What type of doctor are you seeing? Did you have x-rays? I don’t remember your original post so maybe I can help if there is some more information.
