torn calf muscle

(5 discussions)

tore my muscle playing hoops, didn’t get ice to it for 1-2 hours after it happened. Have since been treating it i.e. “r.i.c.e.” Did have to be up on it (all be it lightly) walking a bit since it happened. Cannot put full weight on it. It is still swelled, but now (day 2 ) the swelling has spread into my ankle/foot. Am keeping it wrapped from the foot to just below the knee at all times. Now what? Thank You for any info. you can provide.

Day 2…be patient. Elevate your foot above your heart throughout your day too. It takes 4-6 weeks for tissue to heal. Use crutches if you have to to limit your weight bearing on that side.

I am not sure what the reason is for the pain in my calf. I was running on the tread mill one day and both calfs began to hurt so much that I had to stop running. I rested a week and ran agian and it still hurt only when I ran. I rested another week and the calf was very tight when I ran. How do I figure out what is wrong with it and what should I do to heal it? Running is very important to me and your advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I,m 67 years old, I tripped and fell. Dr. said I tore my calf muscle. It’s been almost 3 weeks of iceing and elevating my leg. I’m walking with crutches and my leg and foot are still swollen. It still hurts to flex my calf muscle and it feels stiff. How long before it heals? Should I be dooing more or less? When should I try to walk normally and streach? Please answer. Thanks.

I fell while skiing and felt a tear in my calf. I iced and elevated my leg off and on for the first two days. Yesterday, day 3 since the accident, I sat in our hot tub and that felt good. I am able to walk slowly, especially when I use a tensor bandage. Is there anything else that I should be doing. Any timeline for getting back on the slopes?
