torn calf muscle?

(3 discussions)

I was running in to the garage to get out of a storm and felt something “rip” in my right calf and I lost all movement ability and my leg from mid-thigh to end of the foot doubled in size from swelling almost immediately.
I went to the ER were they did nothing other than just looked at it and said I sprained it.
I sprained my ankle before but I have NEVER had such pain like this before or heard such a horrible ripping noise.
They sent me home with a pain killer and muscle relaxer since it kept tightening up into horrific muscle spasms.
Two days later it is So tight from the swelling still from the mid thigh to my toes and it is turning all black and blue.
Is this something I should be taking seriously and ask my primary care doc to send me to a specialist?
I can’t feel my toes or move them very well at all and my foot has been constant pins and needles.

I see a physical therapist for a neck injury, I myself tore a calf muscle, heard the pop, was floored and I still have pain walking and sometimes my legs gives out when I get thisincredible pain. My therapist just recommended ice at first then warmth and gentle stretches, but I have been doing all this. Is there something more he could be doing to help my healing? I am tired of being in pain.

Jennifer, I read about your injury. I have the EXACT same situation–it occured on Sunday (it’s Thursday now) and my left calf and ankle is all swollen, is black and blue, and my toes tingle. Did you ever get over this?
