Torn Ligament
I had an MRI done on my ankle a few weeks back and informed that I have a torn ligament that has “atrophied and shrunk back” in the words of my doctor.
It’s an old injury that’s been acting up, so he told me that I can continue to do as I’ve been doing but the only way to fix it is surgery.
Is this true?
Would physical therapy be effective on an atrophied ligament injury?

I don't see how physical therapy would cause an atrophied ligament to heal. Surgery would be the next step, but the procedure depends on how much ligament is left. Sometimes a tendon graft is used to recreate a ligament.
