Torn ligaments in ancle?

I went over on my ancle playing football. I felt something kind of crunch almost upon landing, I also had intense aching and warmth in the area. Now 3 days on above and below my ancle joint (on the outer side of my leg) is purpley red bruising. My leg can move inward without my ancel moving.

HELP!!

OUCH! Judging by what you’ve told me it sounds like you may have sprined your ankle! The type you had, an inversion, is the most common and usually involves damage to the ligaments on the outside of the ankle. The severity of the sprain can be determined by also consider getting an x-ray to rule out the possibility of a fracure, which often occompaines second or third degree ankle sprians.

As for now, rest your ankle by using crutches and ice for 15-20 minutes at least once every other hour to reduce inflammation. Using an ACE wrap and elevating your ankle will also aid in keeping the inflammation down. I would also recommend taking some sort of anti-inflammatory medication such as ibroprofin (sp?) as this will help to reduce your level of pain.

Chances are that you will probably need to go to a physical therapist to get some exercises to strenghten your ankle. Luckily, since ankle sprains are one of the most common injuries, physical therapist have ankle sprain treatment down to an art! I would exepect that you can be back to your normal activities within 4-6 weeks.

    Hope this helps!
