torn meniscus

(2 discussions)

I had orthoscopic surgery 2 weeks ago on the lateral side of my knee. Removal of approximately 30% of the meniscus resulted.
I am a runner, and of course want to begin running soon.
What exercises should I be doing to rehabilitate the knee?

Had a motorcycle wreck resulting in a swollen knee. Had xrays, MRI, doctor says I have badly bruised my bone, now he says the meniscus is torn, but not necessary to do anything right now. The swelling has went down but when I walk it feels like something pulling on each side of my knee. Second opioion please.

Hi: On April 7, 2014 I had orthoscopic surgery, where my surgeon removed considerable arthritis and repaired several tears in the miniscus. The original pain and locking of the knee has disappeared, hurrah!!!!!!! Within a week of the surgery he tells me to stop using the crutches and begin walking and using the knee. So I did as asked. I think it was a mistake. I need to advise you that I am waiting at this time for the stomach bypass surgery in a few months, presently weighing in at 275 lbs. (down from 332)and although the weight loss is good it still is a lot of weight to be placing on a knee that hasn’t healed by any means. So I have gone back to using the ace bandages as a support and using two canes to assist with my walking to aleviate putting all of the weight down on the left knee. So far I am handling the discomfort and pain fairly well with meditation and good old tylenol. Are there exercises that I should be doing to help strengthen this knee? He gave me no advice in this area and I don’t want to do the wrong thing and make things worse.
