torn miniscus

I saw a Dr. last week and he said I had a torn lateral miniscus in my left knee-80% but he would know positively once I got an MRI. I said that I would need surgery if the MRI meets his diagnosis. I had an MRI on the knee and I will see him tomorrow to discuss the MRI. I have continued to run and play golf with pain. The first question is: What else could go wrong with my knee if I continue to do these activities-ligament damage??? I will not be able to have surgery until after the 4th of July be/c of a vacation. What type of knee brace, if any, should I use to stabilize the knee and to keep the pain lower than it is? Any other comments would be nice. Thanks,tom
