The Most Meniscus tears can be repaired with arthocropic surgery. Just 3 small 1/4″ incisions and usually you do real well. It all depends on the tear. See an orthopedic sports medicine surgeon with a specialty in Knees.

Orthopedic and orthopaedic surgeon wants to do arthroscopic surgery on my knee for torn meniscus, is this as well as sports orthopedic dr? I have been going to him, his sub speciality is feet and ankles, he corrected my foot surgery a podiatrist did, and he feels confident about it. I am surgery shy now, what is recuperative time and problem possibilities? THANKS SO MUCH

I am not sure what my problem is. I have been to the knee doctor but he only took x-rays (they found nothing) and a cortizone shot. My knee is still hurting 2 months later. Here are my symptoms: Right knee aches, tender spot on inside of knee, pain in shin, sometimes in calf and upper back of leg, clicking in knee. I am on my feet approximately 6 hours a day and my legs ache alot at the end of my workday. I have a noticale limp. I am 57 and walk like a 75 year old. I am embarrassed and want to feel good again. I am usually pretty active. I am angry that my doctor did not do more extensive testing to correct this problem. He put me on Vioxx for 3 weeks. I would appreciate any info you can give me. Thank you, Nancy

I fractured my hip in a terrible twisting fall on August 2, and now my PT thinks I might have a torn miniscus that was addressed at the time. How can I tell if she is correct. I am in an MHO and getting them to do an MRI is almost impossible. Thanks. Nora

Hi, I just had surgery 2 weeks ago on my right knee for the third time in 4 years. I am 58 years old and am a very busy lady with a part time job and 6 grandchildren and very active socially. My? is I have been having a great deal of pain behind my knee and down my calf when I stand up after setting awhile and I do mean pain (so bad it makes me cry each time I get up). The Dr. sent me for an MRI and he says I have a cyst behind my knee that is leaking and we will see how it does and if it does not get better we will have to have surgery . Is this caused from the surgery and is it something he should have fixed while he was cleaning up the scar tissue and the small minscus tear. Do you think surgery is the answer?

I too had some of those symptons. An x-ray does not show pictures of the soft tissue. You should be scheduled for an MRI.
