warts….how contagious?
HiI take workout class and today I found out that someone else in the class has a plantar wart that is untreated.
I searched online about plantar warts–and kind of scared myself–I really don’t want a wart–from what I read–it seems like it is so easy to pass it to everyone in your family (my 1 year old!) as well as infect the rest of your body….
We don’t share a locker room, no showers or moist areas, just use the same rug to work out on–but barefoot.
Should I wear socks from now on? How contagious are warts–I can’t imagine touching someone elses feet–what is the best prevention for getting a wart–and are they so contagious that walking on the same rug would transmit them?
Thank you in advance!Maria

Yes warts are contagious. Viral diseases are all transmittable, but not everyone who is exposed will get it. One way to avoid warts is to avoid contact. As far as prevention, I'm not sure socks represent a solid barrier. The virus particles are shed and certainly can get through. I am not aware of any published study that documents effective and proven prevention of warts. Most information is anecdotal. I am sorry I can't give you absolute information, but warts can be unpredictable.
