What’s required for Physical Therapy?

(2 discussions)

Dear Physical Therapist, Becoming a physical therapist is one of my goals.
I am only in high school but, I’m pretty sure this is what I want to do during my life. It’s amazing I wasn’t even aware of the pt program until I was injured myself. I love sports and play Softball myself. To go every other day going to therapy made me become determined to recover from my dislocated shoulder in the fall of 2012. I did and seeing other kids and people like me, I wanted to help them too(not just myself). I became interested and took all information acquired from my therapy sessions and learned more. My questions to you are: 1) How many years of education are required to become a pt?2) What benifits and vacation time is there? 3) What sciences are best to take in High School?(Chemistry 2, Biology 2, Physics, and already taking Anatomy and Physiology) Thanks for your time, Amber

: Thanks for your time,: AmberAmber,You already seem to be on the proper path, especially with the courses you are taking. Remember that PT school is very competative, so you need a good, strong background in the sciences, with good grades in your courses. You need to visit some local PT Clinics…call them and ask if you can visit them at their clinic. I am sure they won’t mind…that way you get to see what they do, and to ask them your questions at the same time. Let us know how you make out, and good luck.
