wrist fracture

I fle on my hand the other day and hurt my wrist badly. I assumed it would get better though the day. Now it’s a day on and it still hurts. I think it’s a wrist fracture because I have:- swelling (quiet mild)- bruising (where I haven’t actually hit it)- tenderness around the whole circumference of my wrist- limited wrist movementI have a few questions. Is this just a sprain and what should I do about school. Can the teacher make me write. Its excrutioating to write 🙁

    Alex,
Before worrying about school, you need to get the wrist evaluated by a doctor. He will be able to provide a note allowing you to avoid activities that aggravate the pain. Now, with regards to the wrist pain, you may have sprained it, but if there is bruising and swelling present, it is best to have it radiographed by a doctor. He will provide you with a splint or brace. You should use ice on the wrist, immobilize it, and attempt to keep it elevated above your heart to keep the swelling down (especially when sleeping). Occasionally, if there is a fracture, it will not show up until 4-6 weeks after the trauma. However, it is best to see your doctor because a FOOSH (fall on out stretched hand) injury can cause fracture to the Scaphoid bone (a wrist bone), which can lead to pain for a long time. If it is fractured, they will have to do surgery and place pins in the bone. Regardless, I must emphasize that you should see your family doctor or chiropractor, who can evaluate and X-ray the wrist.
