Wrist Injury

(7 discussions)

Hi there, my first post.

I’ll get to the point. I train in Ultimate fighting,in which I study Submission wrestling, Brazilian Ju Jitsu & Kick boxing. As you can imagine my hands can sometimes take a strain with pushing, pulling, striking & gripping movements.

The short note is: A few weeks back I hurt my left wrist as a result of a poorly executed strike which I felt at the time, but not enough so that I couldn’t finish my training session. The next morning I could barely move my wrist? I applied R.I.C.E which helped then a few days later gave it some heat therapy which also had a positive effect but through the course it was taking forever to heal. About 5 wks later it felt fine to the point that I started to spar again when I hurt it yet again?….back to square one.

The exact area affected seems to be between the Pisiform & head of the Ulna? possibly the styloid process of the Ulna? I really don’t know if it’s been bruised or if it’s musculature, ligament or tendon.

I’d really appreciate any help please as it’s holding me back alot.

Thanks.

Had my treatment done today and my wrist feels alot better!

I had alot of trigger point therapy done to my forearm/wrist/hand, then the injured wrist was manipulated and so forth. I’m really happy at the moment so here’s hoping. I’ll probably have another couple of treatments and see how I go with that.

    Thanks alot for the advice.

I’m having some massage/manipulation techniques done tomorrow so I’ll see how I go with that. I’ll definitely mention what you said. Failing that I also live next to a sports clinic who do physio etc. One of my carpal bones seems to be doing alot of clicking also, going by the location it seems like the Capitate bone. We’ll see.

Actually, when straight punching/jabbing with my left I have no problems as long as it lands squarely but at an angle I think my wrist would break.

I have a feeling, particularly in the way that you hurt your wrist, that you may have damaged your Triangular Fibrocatilage Complex (TFCC) which lies between the ulna and carpus. It is a big stabiliser of the wrist, and a real hassle to heal, so visit you best physio and check if it is a TFCC tear.

I’ve done that my self between BJJ and Shotokan. I took two weeks off with a good anti-inflammatory and it helped alot.
