pulled hamstring

(3 discussions)

I am age 42 and recently pulled my hamstring running the 400m at a masters track meet. It was bad enough that it was painful for about 6 days with a large bruised area. I actually pulled it around the 200m point and kept running to finish in 54 seconds. Currently, I am doing much better now after RICE, stretching and riding a stationary bike.
What I need to know is what exercises can I perform to strengthen my legs and hamstrings. I was told that leg extensions and leg curls could actually cause more harm. I don’t want this to become a chronic problem. What about the biking? Any other suggestions would be extremely helpful.

after neck adjustment

I went to chiropractor cause I was having headaches/dizziness. My atlas was out, so I had my neck adjusted. It was first time I was adjusted manually. Range of motion better in neck. I just have a weird feeling across the bridge of my nose like pressure, but my nose is not running. Felt it like 10min after adjustment and been like this for a day. Could this be from my adjustment?

Metatarsal pain and Morton’s Neuroma

Is there any way of relieving the symptoms of a Morton’s Neuroma and fallen metatarsal joints without having to have foot surgery?
I was born with club feet and had to wear a brace from 6 mos. – almost 2 years and have had foot problems since, i.e. a very short achilles tendon in both legs which has caused me to walk on my ‘tip toes’ for most of my life. Being a female, I disguised this most of my life by wearing high-heeled shoes. Now nearing the age of 40 I am starting to have a lot of difficulty with metatarsal pain and have large calouses on the balls of both of my feet.
I routinely have to use a callous remover to keep them from getting so thick that I cannot walk without severe pain. Even with this, I still and cannot stand on my feet for long periods of time without the pain in my right foot becoming unbearable.
I now wear 1″ heels or flats, but the pain is still intense and to top that off, I have very wide feet. Size 8D — try finding that in a women’s shoe!
I have to go home almost every night and soak my feet in warm water and Epsom Salts.
I found a site called “FootSmart.com” and there are a lot of orthotic products on their site, but I have no idea if their “Metatarslagia” products will make the condition better or worse.
If I can solve the problems via orthotics, I would be very happy with that. Right now foot surgery is not a good option as I cannot afford the time away from work, as I am self-employed. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.Sincerely,Lesa

Jammed Thumb?

Injured my thumb at a concert a couple of months ago.
I am able to move my right hand thumb with little to no pain, but it feels stiff and does not have the dexterity it once had.
My problem is the pain that comes from any pressure put upon the bottom part of my thumb, on my palm.
Hand shakes causes me great discomfort and pain. Even getting change from my pants pocket hurt.
I’ve stopped my weight training in fear that I might re-injure/make the situation worse for my thumb.
It has been two months since the concert, my thumb still hurts with the slightest pressure. Anything I can do?
I heard jams like these take a few months to heal, is that true?

Numb Toe

I had a suspicious mole removed from my toe yesterday (toe to the right of the center toe) and now there is no sensation in the bottom of my toe.
I noticed this as I was replacing the dressing and cleaning around the stiches.
Although I believe I can still move the toe, I am worried that the feeling will not return.
How can I tell if there has been any permanent damage done?

Spinal Cord Stimulator

Hi:I have been having major pain in my foot, on and off for the last few years, broken bones, torn ligaments etc… have tried the nerve blocks, and many different things, with no relief, and they are suggesting a spinal cord stimulator to assist with pain control.
I am waiting for an appointment with a new pain management clinic, to discuss this, do you know how dangerous or how affective this is???-Kolleen

Neck, shoulder, arms and fingers pain

(3 discussions)

Dear doctor:My neck and shoulders are often in pain.
My arms get very tired, even when not in use, and my fingers, including my palms can sometimes ache.
There is no particular spots of pain, they run around, so to say.
I am a pianist and now could no longer play the piano because my fingers would hurt so much after about 15 minutes of playing.
What could a chiropractor do for me?
What kind of treatment plan would it involve? Thanks, Kim
