toe nail fungus
my Dr. says I have cnychomycosis. He has prescibed Lamisil and says that is the only thing that will work. Problem is, it costs $800 and my insurance does not cover this pill. Is there anything else or is this really the only pill that will work?

The answer is no. But Lamisil is the most used oral antifungal medication. Many of the insurance companies seem to have chosen Lamisil as their “prefered drug.” I’m not sure how this happens, but I have my opinion. Others are Sporanox and Diflucan. Lamisil has the greatest rate of success. I agree with you that the cost is prohibitive. I will say that Novartis, the company that owns Lamisil does have some program for those in need, but there are restrictions. You might beg your doctor for some samples to see if that might help defray the cost. I also think they have (or had) a money back guaranty.
