toe pain

(3 discussions)

this is all so strange and I hardly know how to explain… I have been having the most horrible pain in my second toe on my left foot… it is a horrible pain – like someone just his my toe with a hammer.
in the beginning I thought it was caused by my shoe being too narrow but that is not the case… if comes on even when wearing sandals… the pain is not there all the time… perhaps for a couple of hours, then it goes away, and eventually comes back again.
it is so painful that one cannot imagine putting on a pair of shoes and it is very difficult to walk.
any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thank you

Without examining your foot, I can not be sure. One possibility is that you have a Morton’s neuroma. I recommend you see a podiaytrist for evaluation and recommendations.

Usually, I will splint the 4th and 5th toes witha small foam corn pad between them. If you don’t have a small piece of foam, you can use a small piece of a foam make up pad or something similar. Wearing a comfortable sandal might help. If that is still uncomfortable, ask you doctor for a Darco (or other post op) shoe.
Hang in there. It will take a number of weeks.
