Bruised Ribs
(6 discussions)
This weekend I was invloved in a man to man collision on an ice hockey rink. The collision caused me to be winded, but once I as able to breath again, I had some sharp pains in my chest that have not gone away. I don’t think I have broken ribs, but possibly bruised, what can I do to recover from this injury. I was thinking of bandaging my chest (left side) or ice…. What do you suggest?

Several years ago, for some reason, I began having my lower left rib twist, causing me to gasp and wait until it went back in … I was told this was a “floating rib”, which I had never had in my life. Over the years, I learned to live with it and to be careful how I bent forward. Last week, while in the jacuzzi, I leaned over the edge to get ice, and felt this tremendous pressure, and knew the rib went back into place. It doesn’t stick out now, but I can’t lie on my side and allow any pressure. I assume it is just bruised, although, I seems to be getting worse.

DO NOT BANDAGE IT! DON’T USE ICE EITHER!OTC (Over the counter) aspirin helps relieve pain and so does heat. (heat, heat, heat!NO COLD!)Use a heating pad or a hot rag. Ribs have to heal NATURALLY. See a doctor for TROUBLE breathing (not just pain, if you cough up blood, and if the pain gets WORSE. I hope I was of some assistance. I did my research. (Don’t laugh but I’m 12)

Morgan, I think you might want to go back and do your home work a little bit more. Every article execpt for yours says to put ice on your ribs to take away the swelling.
