sprained ankle

I sprained my ankle 10 days ago.
I still have swelling, bruising, and have developed what feels like bone pain around my external ankle, and have shooting pains up the side of my leg.
Additionally the leg from the ankle up to mid calf is extrememly tender to the touch.
I have limited movement if trying to roll my toe inward and have about 70% mobility moving my foot up and down.
I had x-ray’s and they said there was no break.
Is it normal to have pain like this and swelling after 10 days of continued elevation, ice and ibuprofin?

migrating pain in foot

While walking for exercise I suddenly experienced shooting pain on the bottom of my right foot, around the right side of the arch. I walked it off and the problem disappeared. A few days later we went out of town and after a long day of sightseeing (probably walked 5 miles almost continuously), I stood up from a 20-minute rest to find that the pain was back and I could barely walk. The pain would subside (but not disappear completely) after I walked for a few minutes and warmed it up. The following day the pain lingered mildly, but at one point while walking, I felt very sharp, shooting pain starting in my arch and shooting up the outside of my foot and ankle. The pain subsided later that day (even though I continued walking). Now, four days later, I have a dull pain only on the rear side of my foot just in front of and below the ankle. I’m preparing for a fundraiser walk in two days and am concerned I will make this worse. Could any sort of brace help. What could this problem be???

Numbness: Only the outer edge of my right big toe.

(3 discussions)

I should be in a podiatrist’s office right now asking this question, but as a precaution I felt safe confiding in you Dr. Abrams for professional advice. Although to me this problem seems minor, my biggest concern is whether or not the problem will persist or worsen. Approximately three weeks ago, the outer edge of the of my big toe suddenly became numb one day (I had not injured it in any way, the toe itself has no marks, and I do not experience pain). It has not spread thus far, nor has it gone away. I was wondering if this problem can be easily examined and pinpointed, or do you think that I may need several tests or more? It’s a very small area of my toe.Your time, patience, and advice is much appreciated :)Thank You,Sara Miller

Lateral Side Left Foot Pain

I have a pain that starts on the lateral side of my left foot (not in the heel and not in the toes). Directly in the middle of my foot.
When I walk, pushing off to walk sends a pain from the lateral side of my foot, directly over the top middle of my foot and thru my ankle.
It’s been for about a week now. I can’t stand on my tip-toes (or ball of my foot) because the pain is excrutiating.
I’m limping now, and have looked at every website, but found nothing.

They were very sore and turned purple.
All is fine now except for the little toe which is still very swollen and sore.
Will this eventually go away or is there some treatment I need?
