Help!!

Ok, background….27 years old and a cricketer for most of it! I’ve been an opening bowler for for a good standard side since the age of 15 and been carrying my 6ft 8″, 17 stone frame up and down a 25 yard run for the majority of that time. At the end of the 2001 season I developed pain at the bottom of knee cap in my right leg (trailing leg – right arm bowler!). Didn’t think of it through the winter but during the 2002 season the pain was almost constant and developed in both knees. Nurophen got me through most of the year but with over 250 overs under my belt by the end of the season things were getting worse. Whilst playing the pain would be bearable thanks to the pain killers and restricted to the point at the bottom front of each knee cap. Whilst not playing it has become impossible to keep my knees at the same angle for any length of time making long car journeys impossible. Whilst driving and unable to change the angle of the leg the pain shoots up and down the leg towards the shin and the thigh.

Any ideas guys?

Well, the quadraceps tendon/ligament runs over the patella to attach at the tibial tuberosity, the sharp little bump at the top of your lower leg. Is the pain there at that little inch area of ligament? So maybe the ligaments are sprained. Ok, background….27 years old and a cricketer for most of it!
