hyperextended elbow–wrestler

My 10-year-old son hyperextended his elbow at wrestling practice last night. This morning he had trouble getting himself dressed. What is the recovery time for an injury like this? Should I take him to a doctor? He has a state meet in 12 days. Will he hurt himself more if he tries to compete?

swimmer’s elbow

I have recurring pain in my elbow-the inside from swimming and golfing. Warm weather is coming and I plan to do swimming again-I noticed the cho-pat elbow device goes above your elbow. Is there anything made that is waterproof to go right on or below your elbow? ThanksCathie

Strange behavior of a stress fracture – best rehabilitation strategy

Dear Doc,You wrote: >If this is a fairly simple stress fracture, then I am>at a loss to explain why a young healthy active man >with apparent good bone density is still having >problems after this length of time.
I am confused too. I’ll see my doctor in a couple of weeks, he said if weight-bearing doesn’t help he’ll put a cast on it. And I’ll probably do an MRI in that case, too. But what do I do meanwhile? When I wasn’t weight-bearing I was having pains and swelling – when I started partial weight-bearing these symptoms got greatly reduced in a matter of days, so is it probably the right strategy? Does the painless swelling that I got afterwards mean that I should take a couple of days off and start again? If mild pain appears again should I stop any weight-bearing or can it still be normal? I know there might not be a clear-cut answer, but there’s no doubt you have a much better idea than I of how much pain/swelling is normal and not normal in the process of training the bone, so any guidelines you can give will be of enormous help to me.Dmitriy

Need help getting quad strenght back after knee osteotomy

(2 discussions)

I had a distal realignment of L knee 5 months ago (3 weeks cast) and am desperately working on getting quad strenght back which isn’t working. You can see an obvious difference between L/R quad in seize, I do have some strenght but my knee gives out very often. When walking I have to “lock” my leg in extension or it gives out. Surgery was succesfull and tracking is at best. Can you please give me some good quad exercices? How can I get strenght back? I am no longer in PT. Advice please.. Thanks Faith

screw removal

(2 discussions)

Two years ago I had a bunionectomy and three weeks ago I had the screw removed from the big toe.
I now have a hard bump between pea & marble size where the screw used to be.
Is this a common occurrence after removal?
It does not appear to be swelling as the bump is rather defined.
When I had the pin taken out on the other side of my foot (I had bunions on both sides) there was no problem.
It was removed during the first year and was a very simple procedure with one stitch and no swelling.
What usually happens after screw removals?
Thank You

HELP! ITHCY HEEL!

(3 discussions)

Hi.
Your question was the first hit when I searched Google with “itchy heel”. I am stunned for I was hoping to find people with a similar situation to mine, but not so easily!?So you have an itchy ‘right’ heel…!!?Mine drives me nuts, but its the ‘left’ one. Also worse at night but can hit me just any time of day, at home or at work, bare foot or wearing shows. I also have concerns regarding either my liver or my galbladder (but no diagnosis yet).
I just can’t stand it anymore!! I’ve had this concern for ages! Maybe 10 years or so!!!
The other day while watching TV at some relatives, I just had to rub my left heel very rigourously on the rug. I looked weird, but I couldn’t stand it anymore… I stopped the heavy friction when my heel felt like it was on fire! It hurt for a couple minutes, but then I was relieved for a while. But not for long. Now I’m back home, and I can’t seem to get rid of it or make it less annoying. My nails aren’t hard enough to scratch it. I’ve always treated my feet in priority for some reason. I even have a reputation so friends offer me foot care products for Xmas and other special occasions!
The itch is located in a very precise spot on the left heel, never moves, about a square cm or less, maybe even the size of a needle head but I’m not sure…
Hope you enjoyed my description. After all these years, it is the first time I search for an explanation. Even though I do have a hunch it has to do with the hepatic functions…Does this make sense? Can someone PLEASE help me?!!?
Thank you in advance.C

jamming injury to ankle

Recently I injured my talus by landing short on a double back flip.
I am a gymnast.
The MRI shows a bone injury of approx 4*6*2 mm.
It is where my tibia pounded/jammed into my talus.
What types of diet/therapy etc… can be done to help speed the healing process. How much time does this type of injury generally take to heal?
