post surgery pain and swelling

(2 discussions)

i had a total joint replacement of my left big toe on july 8th 2014, 9 months ago.
after being treated for a stitch infection and having a scare revision, 2 months ago, the scare is clean and pretty but the foot is swollen and painful. I am a diabetic and my sugar is under control.
i try to elevate my foot throughout the day but it still gets painful and difficult to walk. I am getting physical therapy which is getting the scare soft but just isn’t helping the pain or swelling

This needs to be reviewed by your surgeon. You need to tell the doctor just what you wrote here.

i have been in close contact with both my surgeon and podiatrist and they tell me that I have to do physical therapy, keep my foot elevated for as much as I can and be patient cause it can take up to a year… are they counting from the scare revision or the original surgery??? they are pleased with the way it looks now, and I am suffering. my quality of life doesn’t exist. I go to work (with special needs kids in an afternoon program) come home and fall into bed with my foot elevated above my nose!!! shoes are only a dream. epsom salt compresses helped a bit. my biggest problem is that I live in the southern arava desert on a kibbutz in the middle of nowhere and getting anything is difficult. thanks for your input
