Twisted Knee

I’ve been in Ireland about 6 years now, and a few years before moving over I twisted my knee. I was going up the stairs at home when the carpet went from under my feet (it was loose due to the fact that we were having an extension to the house done at the time). My knee took the full weight of my fall and as I landed on it I got a severe, excrutiatingly painful twisting sensation right in the centre of my left knee. I didn’t get medical attention as it seemed to settle okay but I went for physiotherapy.

Several years later, my knee is still extremely unstable. It always ‘twists’ although some are less severe than others. Severe twists cause my knee to completely buckle, sending me flying. Smaller twists are just when my knee twists when I make a movement but doesn’t buckle, and I just immediately shift the weight onto my right leg and then I’m fine. Its always sore when this happens although level of soreness depends on the severity of the twist. When going up stairs and when crouching down the grinding noise from my knee is unreal and I also get a burning sensation in my knee as well.

I’m going to get a referral this year to get it sorted but I haven’t a clue whats wrong with it and don’t know what to expect. Does anyone have any ideas?
