Buldging Disk

(11 discussions)

Hello, My name is Laura and I am 20 years old. I have been having back problems for past two years. I went to a chiropractor and he took x-rays of my spine. I thought that it was just that I needed to get an adjustment but he said that I have a buldging disk.
I have been looking on the interent and I haven’t found anyone my age with this.
Is this normal?
Will it ever get better?

hey laura I am 20 years old and I have a buldging disk as well…. I am always in pain and have gone even to get an MRI done on my back. its my last disk… I have gone to a neurosurgeon as well and they said that there is nothing you can really do for it. there are stretches and maybe getting steriods in your back but the fda has not approved a disk replacement yet, but even with that it is a risky proceedure.. hope this helps.

Laura, a buldging disk can be helped. If there is extreme pain you may want to look into a neucloplasty with an IDIT procedure. Very minimum invasive procedure but it could solve some of your constant pain. I have the same issue with my L5 and L4 disks the L5 was pressing up against my nerves, very painful and eventually led to numbness in the toes legs etc.. I would really look hard before getting the Steroid shots. They decrease your ability to fight infections in your back and over time can have serious side affects if you get too many of them. See your local Orthopedic and a neurosurgeon. Bring your MRI’s Get a Nerve test done to see if your nerves are being affected. Be careful with certain exercises such as bending over repetisiously. good luck.

I’m 22. I have technically had a buldging disk since I was 15. I didn’t realize I had the problem until I started to play more soccer during my college years. I then saw a doctor complaing of extreme pains in my legs and numbness, due to muscle spurs in my lower back. I had a CT scan which showed some disks which were buldging and tried to contemplate any serious car accidents or anything which would lead to this serious problem. I had never had a car accident of any type, but I do recall jumping from a roof of a house – typical teenage stuff, right? I missed the mattress and landed right on my sensored. I shook my whole spine and I felt it in my brain. I now realize what pain I will be going through with for the rest of my life, probably laid up in a bed when I’m 35 to 40 years old. The kind of pressure which will be administered to my spine during the years in the future is unknown.Since I have stopped being active in sports, it has gotten better. The only thing that you can do about it is to strengthen the muscles in the abdomen and lower back by swimming frequently. Water is a very good supporter of people with serious injuries who can’t strengthen their muscles any other way. The other option is surgery which is quite controversial due to the high stakes of paralysis with surgery associated with the spine.

My name is Jeremy and I have a buldging disc in my back. I had this for the past 3-4 years and it has gotten worse. I have pain every now and then going down to my and right side of my legs. I also sleep with a pillow between my legs for the past 2 years. I saw my spine doctor. Then he referred me to another one that does a shot in the back. They only can do it 3 times a year. Just to let you all know. I have one shot left and I have a little bit of relief. Here is the real reason why I am writing this. I found out this past year that they are going to have something called disc replacement. It is way better then a spinal fussion. They replace the disc in your back and it will only be about 2 weeks you are out of work and 2 days you are in the hospital. The FDA is going to approve it next year in 2015.If any of you are having this problem with your back please…Wait until next year. I have been in pain so long that I think it is worth the wait. Talk to your doctors about it. See if they know anything.

I am having serious pain in my back. The MRI reveals that I have a bulging disk in the L5, L4 area. I have had all the epeidural injections that I can have or want. I also don’t want to medicate the rest of my life for this problem but the pain is becoming unbearable. Is there a neurosurgeon in the Oklahoma City area that will do the neucloplasty procedure? If you know of one or even if I must travel to Penn. I want to investigate this procedure. I am hoping to get this done and get some [email protected]
