Cheilectomy

(2 discussions)

I had a cheilectomy in December but the results weren’t too good.
I still had no movement and pain.
I was referred for physio and am in the process of having ultra-sound treatment which has resulted in me gaining slight movement but I still have pain.
Does anyone know if this pain will subside in time and full movement regained or would it be possible to have a second cheilectomy to hopefully rectify things.
I don’t want to have a fusion.
Any info would be appreciated.
Many thanks.

Hi Susan, I had a cheilectomy in Feb 2017. My foot was in a fairly bad state before the operation and I found a drastic improvement afterwards. However, 2 years later, I still have limited flexibility and daily pain, but nowhere near as bad as prior to the operation. If you are still having probs, I would go back to your surgeon. That’s what I am doing! The last thing that I want is fusion so I am also considering a second cheilectomy. However, the thought of not being able to exercise properly for six months is putting me off! Good luck. James

susan- the results of cheilectomy are very unpredictable. if you had no improvement it is unlikely a revision cheilectomy will help. another option for MTP pain is a fusion operation which might be your best bet. good luck
