I too have a lump on my lower back near my spine. A few weeks ago I took up jogging. I only managed to jog on two occasions before I started to get back pain. The lump on my back appears to be getting bigger and i am now getting pain in my hip joint and down my right leg. I’ve used heat treatment and stretches but the seem to be temporary cures.
Does anybody know what this is? I also have a lump in my lower right side of my spine that just starting forming about a month ago –it seems to be getting larger. My back hurts and it seems tight. The bump protrudes out more when I bend. Anybody know what it is?

I too have a lump in my lower back about 1-2 inches from spine. It feels hard, and when my back starts to get tired or if I stretch a certain way, it causes pain in the area. It feels like it is about .75 -1 inch in diameter. I think I noticed it 1st, 2 months ago. But I also have a lump in my right armpit about 1 inch. (for 4 months or more) and am going for ultrasound for both in 5 weeks. I am worried though. Dr.s don’t know yet but guess it is a cyst….
Oh, by all means, go get it looked at, no matter WHAT you think it could be. Cancers are too scarey to mess around with.Having said that, My father, mother and brother all have weird little lumps all along near the spine, that don’t really hurt. The Dr. says they’re just cysts. It really could be nothing, and it really could be something. Be insistant with your doctors. Make them really get this checked out! It may be nothing major… but if it is major… better to find it when it’s managable than after it’s too late.

i have 2 lumps in my lower back, one on each side of my spine, they are about the size of a golf ball. they have been there a while but now they really hurt, just got back from the doctor and he told me they were cysts. now I have to go for an mri. don’t wait like I did, they only get bigger and hurt alot more. Yes, It moves around like a very large marble. It’s getting bigger. Went and had a CT scan, no tissue mass. They still don’t know what it is but muscle relaxers and Naproxen help the pain, but still don’t know exactly what it is. Massage therapist does a ‘lymphatic drainage’ that seems to help but makes me sick to my stomach and extremely tired.. Any information would be helpful….

I have recently noticed a semi-large bump in my lower back. My coaches at my school say that it is just my muscle bunched up from twisting alot and that I should put some biofreeze on it and do some stretches and leg-lifts. I’ve had the lump for about a week and a half now and every time I do some physical activity it starts to hurt and it seems to be slowly getting bigger. I have been doing the stretches and it doesn’t seem to be helping. So my question is, what is it and what should I do to get rid of it?

Hi, I have seen all the mails in this forum and it surprices me how this lump thing is so common. Well it has surely scared me. I noticed it a couple of months ago.. and it is on the right side of my spine somewhere close to the kidney. What worries me is I have a history of cyst. I had one in my right ovary about 6 years ago.. and was operated on coz it ruptured.. my ovary was removed in that surgery. someone tell me that this is not another cyst. I just had a sonogram done on my pelvic region 2 months ago.. (just before I saw the little lump.which is more like a clot) adn the sonogram said everything was normal. I am very hesitant to go to the doc. The surgery and post surgery memories are not very pleasent you see. Also we are planning for a baby.. is it safe? some one pls guide.

My hunch is most of the lumps you guys have been posting about are benign, but get checked out anyway just to be safe.
Hey! I’ve had a lump in my lower right side of my back for a long while now. It’s really started to grow more and cause me more and more pain to my pelvic and back area. My doctor prescribed me naproxen (a swelling reducer) because he thought it was a muscular problem and I’ve been taking it for 4 months now and the lump is still there causing problems with all it’s glory! It scares me because I have no idea what it is and the pain it gives me worries me. My doctor just wants me to get physical therapy, but how’s that suppose to work if it isn’t a muscular problem? I’m definitely getting a 2nd opinion.

He told me it was either a fatty cell or a tumor cell and the only way to find out was to have a biopsy done, which is when they stick a long needle into and remove the core to test. I was given the names of some surgeons, because this has to be done by a surgeon he told me. Either outcome, he said that it was most likely benign if I wasn’t having any pain or numbness in the area. He said this even though I told him I was having lower back pain which I thought was unrelated.

I noticed about 6 months ago I developed a lump in my lower right side of back next to the spine it is about 4″ long and 1″or so wide it seems to be movable it has not posed any problems unitl the last few days, it has not grown or shrunk any but lately causing discomfort in me back only on that side above the lump and some slight cramping in my leg, Do you have any ideas what this might be and what type of Doctor would you recommend?

I have a lump in my lower right back, my husband noticed while giving me a massage five years ago. My back falls asleep and I feel like I can not move, what do u think this could possibly be. It only hurts if someone rubs it.
