Miniscus repair and physical therapy

(2 discussions)

I had arthroscopic surgery on my left knee 4 1/2 weeks ago.
The doctor repaired the miniscus with darts.
I have done everything doc said to do : No weight bearing, kept it in the cast / Ice / raised above heart etc…
I now have permission to put 50lbs of weight on the leg and to start trying to get some movement back — Some progress but the knee and above the knee are extremely stiff. Almost 5 weeks now.
How hard do I push the knee for movement.
How long will this take to get back in shape? Any suggestions?
Is this where the real pain starts with thearapy? Anyone that has gone through this — would love some feedback from you — Thanks in advance

hey, I had the exact same surgery, two darts to reapir my miniscus. I was on crutches for two weeks and began walking on the knee beginning of the 3rd week, I had full motion and ability to walk back by 5 weeks. my doctor said as much weight as I could tolerate, because its not a walking motion thats going to affect it, it’s a twisting motion. ride a bike too, that helped a lot in the last 2 months of recovery and I never did any PT, after only 3 adn a half months I’m back at skiing competitively.

I had a piece of miniscus cut off about 6 weeks ago. Feel OK with range but it is still stiff and weak. I ride a spin bkie about 40 min/day 4-5 time/wk and swim with shortie fins about 5 times/wk. I tried leg extensions with weight but it made it very sore. Too much weight obviously. what are some exercises I can do to strengthen it. Stairs really suck and are unavoidable.
