My 12 year old daughter was just diagnosed with this. Doctor seems unsure what to do. Possibly put a cast on the foot for 4 weeks. Is there any information we can see?
Thank you
This is inflammation of the growth plate (apophysis) of the heel. When the heel is done growing and the growth plate fuses with the main body of the heel bone, generally it quits. Treatments can range from rest, heel cushions, heel cups, orthotics, stretching exercises and even cat immobilization if it is felt to be fractured or the child can not walk. There is a very nice description at this site epodiatry/heel-pain-children.htm
