Torn bicep in arn

I purchased a tool from Sears as I picked up the box there was a snap in my arm.
It was a torn tendon in the arm that attaches to the lower bicep.
I had surgery.
How long to recover from a injury of this type?

I was working out this AM and felt my bicep tear. I was told to not weight lift for a couple of weeks. Do I need to have any kind of support for my arm?

I have a detached bicep in my left (non-dominant) arm. My orthopedic specialist advises NOT to surgically repair the detached bicep. I have a normal range of motion and no pain, playing golf, tennis and swimming quite mormally. 2 questions 2) are there exercises to help compensate for this torn bicept? Thank you.
