Torn tendon in middle finger

While arresting a violent person my middle left finger was grabbed and snapped. The tendon is torn completely and the tip just flops, I am in a splint for 6-8 weeks. This is my handcuffing hand as well I play guitar. I am being treated by a plastic surgeon. What can I expect in way of recovery and use of my finger.D J Hale

I tore the tendon from my right ring finger playing soccer. I grabbed another player’s jersey and I had the same thing happen. The tip of it would not bend, like you said it just flopped there. I had surgery on it less than a week later and was in a splint with my wrist at a 90 degree angle for 2-3 weeks. After much rehab 2-3 times a week at outpatient therapy it began to improve. Now my finger functions just as well as the ring finger on my left hand. I can do everything that I was able to before with no problems. Just make sure to do the rehab completely and you should be fine. If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me and I will do my best to answer them for you. I feel your pain, and it seems like its taking forever to heal I’m sure, but stick with the rehab and you’ll be fine.
