Physical Therapy for Drop Foot?
(2 discussions)
I have paroneal nerve damage caused by a cyst in my spine pressing against the spinal cord. I will have surgery to remove the cyst, however neurologists are not optimistic that the nerve damage will repair itself. The symptoms are some tingling and numbness in my right foot and lower leg. But the major symptom is “drop foot” in that I cannot keep the foot from slapping the ground when walking.Any ideas for physical therapy or exercise therapy to at least keep the problem from getting worse? Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately since there was damage to the peroneal nerve you will most likely always have a drop foot. You should wear an AFO...ankle foot orthosis...to hold the foot up when you walk. Ask your doc or physical therapist about this device... It will improve your walking 100%.
