Any danger post subtalur dislocation?

I am a 30 year old male.
26 months ago I experienced a subtalur dislocation.
Surgery was necessary to reattach my foot, otherwise no pins or screws.
After 18 months, no necrosis of the talus, so my podiatrist told me not to worry about it and that I was lucky to avoid having my ankle fused.
inversion and eversion range is limited to about 30-40% of what is was, while my forward and backward range (??) is probably around 80-85% of what it was.
My doctor told me to expect problems with arthritis in the future.
I have two questions: What if anything can I do to extend the range and flexibility of my ankle?
What affect will backpacking and extended hiking have on my ankle (besides causing it to swell, become extremely sore and tight for a day or two) and long term mobility?
Thank you very much for your opinion and time,Michael

Pigeon-Toed Problems As An Adult

(2 discussions)

Dr. Abrams, PLEASE respond to my post.
I don’t know who else to turn to.
I am a 40-year old female and have been severely pigeon-toed all my life.
My mother never noticed it until I was 13, and she then only took notice because it was brought to her attention by a friend of hers.
She never noticed much of what we did anyhow so why would walking have been anything different? I’ve been searching the Internet for articles concerning pigeon-toed feet, and they all have to do with children.
Is it too late for me? My husband swears that if I just concentrate on walking, I won’t walk pigeon-toed.
But I can’t! My feet turn inward constantly, even while I sleep, and I can’t seem to control it.
Walking outwardly almost hurts – when I attempt it it feels foreign and uncomfortable.
This problem is affecting my self-esteem and my gait – I know I lurch and plod while I walk – I have been told so repeatedly. I can’t afford to go to a doctor right now – my husband’s dental bills are costing us $12,000 and so there’s little left for anything else.
I’m just miserable and mad at my mother for not noticing something that has affected my entire life.
I told her how I felt, that people tell me I have an extremely unfeminine walk, and she said, “Well, at least you have a pretty face.” Unfortunately, looks fade but my pigeon-toed problem is still with me.
Are there any remedies for adults? Please help me.
I go through shoes like crazy as they get all worn down unevenly on one side, and I’m tired of being laughed at…
I don’t know where else to turn to.
Thank you for having such a wonderful website – you are an angel for devoting so much of your time to people who ask you for your help.

Heel Pain

(3 discussions)

Hello,
I am a GE Nurse who is on my feet all day on 10-hour shifts.
I am otherwise physically active and have been exercising and stretching for 18 months.
All of a sudden, I am experiencing pain just forward of both heels.
And, as opposed to the symptoms of plantar fascitis, it gets WORSE as the day goes on, being particularly painful after work.
I am stretching before I get out of bed in the morning, wearing gel inserts, changing my shoes frequently, taking Motrin — but I am still experiencing pain.
What else can I do?
Is this plantar fascitis or something else?
Thanks,LINDA

Posture

Is it worth spending the money on a posture correction brace or should I see a physician or otherwise before doing so? I am about 6’1″ and would like to help train my shoulders out of a hunch and slouch, which tends to come natural until I notice it. Also, I feel this may help relive some discomfort in my back. Suggestions?
