severs disease

(2 discussions)

My son is 14 has severs disease.
He was hobbled for several weeks but the quags and stretching have him back at full strength.
He has been running pain free for 2 weeks, how long should he wear the quags. He has tight hamstrings and calf muscles, will depending on the quags weaken or shorten his achilles?
Football season runs right into basketball season and advice would be appreciated.
THanks Scott

Without examining him, I can not say for sure. Certainly you are glad he is better, but until his growth plate is closed in the heel, he might want to continue wearing these. I would not be so worried about long term effects due to his age. If stretching has helped, then he might continue to do so.

i have severs disease too and wearing shoes in the house helps so much. it keeps weight off the heel, just a pair of running tenni shoes or something
