Slight Pain in Heart region (right below chest)

Hi, I am new to the boards and I have a question…I want to see if anyone can determine whether this pain is from my heart or from somewhere near it? I feel the pain (tightness followed by some pain) in my heart region ONLY while I lift and when I sleep (when it’s most pronounced). I lie on my side and when I get up in the middle of the night (since I’m drinking gallons of water), I gotta pee …so while I’m lying there, I take a deep breathe through my chest and I get this pain around my heart- I’m not sure if it is or not. The pain ONLY comes about when I’m taking deep breathes through my chest cavity. What could this be? Anyone have a clue, or have had similar experiences? Right now I am taking in the same deep breathes and I dont feel pain. Thanks

P.S. I sometimes have Gas problems due to the protein I take in and some foods just dont go well with me. But, it’s funny how its only on my heart side…right directly over it or on it..?

Hi Philly, I had the same problem about 18 months ago. I got a knock playing football and didnt notice it at the time. A few days later it hurt real bad everytime I breathed in so it frightened me into going to the doc. I went to the doc and he diagnosed it as inflamation of a couple of ribs around the heart and a few anti inflamitories did the trick. Would reccomend going to the doc to check it out though.
    Hope this helps…

Uh, I’m 21, and I hope this is not as serious as something like an oncoming heart attack. Someone has told me that it could be from weightlifting like a musclular-skeletal problem or something that really isnt too dangerous. ANyone have any good ideas?

I’m no doctor but I wouldn’t mess around with this – go see one ! You never mentioned your age but it is not unheard of for people to have heart attacks in their 30’s or even younger. Check it out ! I have read that many people miss the warning signs and could have saved themselves.
