Snowboard Injury

(2 discussions)

I was trying out a friends snowboard, wiped out and overextended my thigh muscle. The next day I noticed sharp pains underneath my kneecap when I walk. I have been limping to keep weight off until I could get to the doctor. About 2 weeks later my doctor said that the limping has caused the problem and that I should walk as normally as possible and see him in 3 weeks if the problem persists.

Could this be true? The doctor did take x-rays and I don’t have any swelling in the knee area or leg. It hurts quite a bit when I walk on it. Should I get another opinion?

Thanks, –Tracy

My Orthopedic doctor took x-rays and determined that I needed to quit limping and walk normally so that my thigh muscle would heal. He said that if it doesn’t get better in 3 weeks to come back & see him. A week later it has all but gone back to normal.

I thought it was more serious and that a ligament or something was torn. My doctor was right!

Hmmm. It could be that your quad injury lead to the development of your knee problems, like your doctor said. However, I would still get a second opinion, especially since it has been quite a long time since your injury occured.

My sister took a nasty fall just walking down a hallway. Her patella was forced into her femer so hard that it caused a chip to break off. She was having pain under her patella, like you seem to be having. However, I don’t know if that’s what you have.

Anyhow, is snowboarding any fun? I’ve never tried it…
