Torn calf Muscle

(7 discussions)

My doctor told me to apply heat compresses to my torn calf muscle.
I tore it 10 days ago and not getting better.
There is a lot of pain and bruising.
Is there anything else I can do?

I don’t like heat for pain and bruising…try icing for 15 minutes to control pain every hour if needed. Are you using crutches to take the pressure off of your foot to limit the pain? If not you should be doing that. Avoid anything that makes it hurt right now…let it heal for a week or so then try bearing more weight as pain permits. Do only gentle stretching at first..don’t be agressive stretching a healing torn muscle? Ask your doc if you can go see a PT ASAP.

I play for a womens football team and a few months ago tore my calf muscle and the fibres on my right leg, I was on crutches for a few days. After about a month and a half I pulled my muscle again. This time however, it eased off after a couple of days. Two weeks ago, I pulled it again. This is becoming increasingly more frequent and annoying, how can I prevent this apart from strapping up my leg and stretching before games?

I was jumping and heard a pop in my calf. I cannot walk on the leg. Is there a difference in treatment based upon whether this is a tear or a strain?
