Upper Back Pain-at night only

Having severe upper back pain in upper part of back under shoulder blade..both sides. Only hurts at night…is fine during the day. Am currently taking a muscle relaxer to help sleep. If I sit up in bed it goes away…otherwise very persistant. Dr. appt. tomorrow w/possible bone scan. Back xray showed everything fine. Do you think it’s muscle related??

– is the pain closer to the spine or the side? The scapula is shaped like a shovel, with the point facing down towards your butt, is the pain closer to the point?

– What position do you tend to sleep? Where are your arms? Does the pain wake you from sleep, or prevent you from going to sleep?

– Unless someone is coming along and wacking you with a baseball bat, it’s probably muscle related
