Bruised after therapy

I recently have a friend who recently had a cadaver surgery to replace his ACL.
He is first week into therapy (about 10 days after surgery) and his PT worked him so hard that his calf is bruised.
Is this something normal?
Should his therapy be this intensive so early on with a cadaver ACl replacement?
