Knee Pain – ACL Repair

(2 discussions)

I had a football injury in 1987 that tore my ACL from the bone on one end and did mild meniscus damage.
It is now 15 years later and I have a numb pain from time to time just to the inside of my knee cap.
If I bend my leg all the way back (heel to buttocks), it is tender in the area just inside my knee cap.
It will somewhat “lock up” about every month or so.
It is not physically locked up, but it feels like a numb pain and like someone is pulling my knee cap up.
I have been able to play sports, run, bike since my rehab was over in 1988. Any suggestions?
I was planning to make an appointment with an orthepedic surgeon/ possibly an MRI.
Help?

Foot numbness during exercise

(3 discussions)

My wife is a 35 year old, 5′ 7″, 130 lb woman.
She mentioned that during exercise (typically 20 min on an elliptical trainer) her feet will go numb.
Specifically her toes and the balls of her feet.
Tying her shoes loosely seems to help, but doesn’t seem safe.Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

plantar faciitis

I’ve had plantar faciitis for a couple of years.
I understand there is a non-invasive treatment now that does the same thing as a cortizone shot. Can someone tell me the name of that treatment?
I’d like to check with my insurance company to see if it would be covered. Thanks,

Toe Tendinitis

Hi,
My doctor has diagnosed me with tendinitis of the joints under my big toe.
He said there is some sort of what he called a toe loop that has a band that holds the thing on your feet.
Do you have anything like that?
Thanks,Kathie

Broken Ankle – Bad swelling, can anyone advise please?

Hi,
I broke my ankle – I don’t know what kind of break as the hospital didn’t tell me.
I had a cast fitted for 6 weeks – when I went back to get the cast removed, the hospital said I should leave it on a further 2 weeks.
So, after nearly 8 weeks the cast is now off but I am still getting lots and lots of problems. My foot, ankle and bottem half of my leg is very swollen and I cannot walk unaided on the foot.
I thought after all this time things would have been a little better than this, but I cannot move my foot or walk on it.
I am concerned about all the swelling and that after nearly 8 weeks there seems to be so significant improval in my condition.
I would appreciate any advice/stories (etc) that anyone can offer with similar conditions.Your replies will be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks.Carol

insertional tendonitis, accessory navicular, or both

(4 discussions)

Severe pain in ankles after walking 6 or 8 blocks which gets worse the more I walk.
The pain is mostly on the inside of the ankle directly in front of the ankle bone.
I also get pain in the plantar fascia region but not as incapacitating nor as frequent.
I had a fairly rigid orthotic made which didn’t help me at all and seems to irritate the condition.
Right now I’m best in Teva Sandals.
I’ve essentially had two differenct diagnoses, one from a respected Foot and Ankle Orthopedist and the other from a very well respected Podiatrist.
The Orthopedist says I have an accessory navicular bone in both feet and recommened extensive ankle stregthening exercises and NO orthotics.
The Podiatrist, who I feel better about, says I have an insertional tendonitis of the anterior tibial tendon and that this tendon goes all the way around under the planta fascia and that’s why I’m having pain there as well.
He says I should do NO exercises that push the foot toward me and extensive stretching of the calf.
Although he would prefer a rigid orthotic, recognizing I can’t wear it, he will make me a “soft” orthotic. My real concern is who to trust because the PT recommendations are very different. And most urgently, how do I walk without irritating the anterior tibial tendon to the point where I cannot walk?
Thanks and I apologize for the length of this post. T

Knee achy (clicking noise)

I am an avid sport/workout nut.
I am 32 years old and have worked out my whole life.
I find myself now with many aches and pains but one of which doesn’t seem to go away.
My right knee gets very achy when I sleep and sometimes when I am on it for too long.
I went to a orthopedic and he said it’s a form of Tendonitis.
I have done everything he has said (no squats, knee brace when working out, etc.). I still find it to get achy and sometimes the pain travel to my ankle (when I sleep).
I still continue to workout but don’t want to make it any worse.
It has come and gone for about 3 years now. Let me know if you have any answers to my questions.
I especially want to keep training but need to know what things I need to avoid and how can I fix it with my own physical therapy.
Thanks a bunch, Kelly
