3 Pains in right foot

(3 discussions)

I have three points of pain in my right foot. I don’t know if they are related to each other. About 14 years ago a podiatrist did laser surgery on a plantar wart on the inside of my big toe. As it healed I developed scar tissue. Lately, when I put pressure on the toe I get a sharp pain on the bottom of my big toe near the scar. The bottom of the toe hurts in general with pressure. Also, my pinky toe is sensitive to the lightest pressure in shoes but no callous or corn has formed. The last thing is a pain in my ankle on the outside at the base of the ankel bone. If I palpate there I feel a small bump or cyst. Sometimes at the end of the day this part of my foot really hurts too. What is happening? I appreciate your opinion.

Thank you for your on-line opinion. I have been to my HMO podiatrist and he tells me as long as I work too much on my feet I will have pain. The advice doesn’t help me much. If it is nerve entrapment and a ganglion cyst, how is it treated? How do I find a good podiatrist near me to see me? Thank you for your help with my questions. I look forward to your next reply. Thank you.

You noted you have a HMO. You can ask them for a list of podiatrists on the plan. You can ask friends, co-workers etc for names of who they saw and if they were satisfied. If a doctor you decide to see is out of your network, ask if you have out of network benefits.

It would be best to have a podiatrist evaluate this in person. I can only suggest that there may be a nerve entrapment in the scar tissue on the big toe. As far as the other part of your foot, if there is a cyst (possible a ganglion) you need to have this checked out. It might be pressing on a nerve causing pain.
