3 years of knee pain, help!!

(3 discussions)

I’ve had a knee injury for 3 years now and its really getting me down.
Its on the outside of my left knee, slightly below the bottom of my knee cap.
When the pain comes its like i’m being stabbed in the side of my lower knee and i have to stop moving! Most of the time its just a dull ache and running & general exercise don’t really trigger it off, its stupid things like tapping my foot on the floor or moving my foot around whilst sitting down!
I’ve had loads of physio and it didn’t really do much, i’ve just seen a specailist and the MRI results show nothing. The specailist said that he doesn’t know what it can be as nothing is showing up and he can’t reproduce the pain by prodding about!
He hasn’t given up on it but suggests that i see a sports physio (which i did do for a long time before).
I don’t know what else to do as this is a long term injury now and if it continues to get worse i will have to look for another job!
If anybody has any advice whatsoever i would be extremely greatfull.

Many thanks guys.

Have you tried a sports massage therapist that specialises in soft tissue release. It may be the pain is refering from another problem area into your knee.
If you don’t think its soft tissue related then maybe try a biomechanics specialist or an orthotics specialist as it could be to do with your body alignment thats causing pressure in your knee.
The sports massage association can refer you to practitioners in your area on their web site
    Good luck!
